The activist of volunteer organization «Otvetstvennye lyudi» (The Responsible People) Olga Kosse shared with her experience how to move through the checkpoint «Hukovo» in a better way and to get from Donetsk to Volnovakha or Mariupol.
If you decide to go to Mariupol or Volnovakha by car, you risk to spend 10 hours for the road only in one side. You will have not exactly time to come back during a day. To get faster at first you will need to walk or take a ride to the block-post near town Novotroitskoe. Then you should ask one of the drivers in the first cars in queue to sit in his car. Drivers seldom deni and usually drive up for free. On the block-post “Bugas” you should do the same procedure. But, of course, you need to find the driver who will agree to take you to your desired city.
I went out from Donetsk with driver at 7:30 o’clock am. We were in the queue near Ukrainian block-post at 8:30 am. I leaved the driver and went further by the scheme described above. I was in Volnovakha at 11:30 am. Driver crossed the first block-post only to 1 pm and headed to “Bugas”. I went back to Donetsk through the “Bugas” already at 4:30 pm and my driver has been staying still in a queue on the exit from Volnovakha.
It’s very important to know that without corresponding pass through the checkpoint “Bugas” nobody won’t allow you to move all tries will be useless. You have a right to move without queue if there is in the car pregnant woman, a disabled person or child up to five years. The participants of queue not so often allow to move free without staying in it. So, you will need to prove your legal right of moving without a queue. People who can’t get to another side of blockpost for a day will run to soldiers, lay on the road, cry, shove and threaten.
Nearly 40 minutes I went from the end of the rest from cars to Novotroitsky block-post. I went there with a woman of 65-years old. She went on foot from Elenovka. She brought medicine in Dokuchaevsk to her brother, who suffers from epilepsy and schizophrenia. I asked her, how she carries so a big number of prescription medicines through the checkpoints? But she didn’t answer on this provocative from my side question.
Also it’s important to remember that according to renewed on June 16th the temporary order of entry into the uncontrolled territories and out of it, medications are allowed to carry through the demarcation line in an amount of not more than five packages of each item per individual. This rule doesn’t apply to medicines that contain narcotic or psychotropic substances.
The different consumer goods, except the excisables, are allowed to carry on the sum not more than 10 000 UAH, granted that they do not weigh more than 50 kg per individual.
Food for own use is allowed to carry not more than 50 kilograms per individual, on amount not more than 5 000 UAH. A persons who has reached the age of eighteen are allowed to carry 200 cigarettes and 5 litres of beer, or 2 litres of wine, or 1 litre of alcoholic beverages.
