Deputies of Svatovskiy City Council are going to ask authorities of the district and the region to apply in Verhovna Rada for assigning a status of “the city of regional significance” to Svatovo. This decision was taken on a session of the local City Council.

We would specify that according to the UN recommendations a settlement with population exceeding 20 000 people can be recognized as a city. There are a little bit more than 18 000 people in Svatovo. In Luhansk region Krasny Luch (150000 people) and Alchevsk (100000 people) are cities of regional significance.
