The United Nations World Food Programme made a decision to scale up its emergency operation in eastern Ukraine. Additional food products will be provided to avoid malnutrition among children of 0-2 years, who are subjected to the highest risk. “The goal of the new stage of humanitarian operation is to provide 500,000 conflict-affected people in the region with food assistance”, — the Press Office of the United Nations Organization reported in Geneva.

WFP noted that food distributions in the Donestsk and Luhansk regions or oblasts have almost tripled the number of people the UN agency has been assisting since November 2014. With its current expansion of aid, WFP will carry out food distributions in the three additional regions of Kharkivska, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhya.

It is estimated by the UN that more than 1.3 million people have been displaced in Ukraine since the beginning of the crisis last year. WFP expect to get support of its humanitarian operation from donor countries. Saying that it urgently needs for $30.3 million to continue providing aid through December 2015.

We would remind that during the military conflict on the East of Ukraine 6116 people had died, 15500 citizens were injured. It was reported by the UN in Twitter. It is also reported that more than 800 thousand Ukrainians went to other countries. The massage said that 800 961 Ukrainians had applied for asylum, residence permit or other lawful status in the neighboring countries by April 16.
