The action dedicated to the Birthday of Crimean Political Prisoner Hennadiy Afanasiev has taken place in Kyiv on Sophia square. According to the report of the Facebook community “Free Afanasiev” the mother of Hennadiy also was present on the action and recorded the video message.

Hennadiy became 25 year old on November 8. In honour of this event the activists from the Center for Civil Liberties and also friends of Hennadiy have organized the action to gather the presents, which will be brought to him in colony.

Afanasiev was one of the main witnesses in the case of Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko, but at the last moment he recanted, claimed, that they were given under the pressure and tortures. At the moment he is serving his sentence in a penal colony in the Komi Republic (Russia).

Also, during the event there were video Hennadiy’s mother Olga Afanasieva, who could see her son a few days ago. One of the friends of Hennadiy told that he feels good and doesn’t lose his optimism.

We would remind that Hennadiy Afanasiev was detained by stuff of FSS on May of last year. He had been blamed in the participation of the “terrorist organization of Sentsov” and sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment.
