Decommunization activity moves very slow in Poltava, because of the resistance from the side of a mayor Alexander Mamai. Ukrainian scientist historian, the chairman of the Ukrainian Institute of the National Memory Vladimir Vyatrovich told about this in the interview to “Glavkom” edition.
According to words of Vyatrovich there not so many communist names and monuments in Poltava, but mayor of the city sees no need to rename objects. Historian considers that it’s quite possible that renamings in Poltava will be achieved on the court level.
“If such a person isn’t able to lead the city, freeing it from the snow, when it was needed and from the communistic past, so whether this man must be on the post of the head of the city?”, wonders about the suitability of Mamai Vyatrovich.
We would remind that 17 streets, square and little park were renamed by an order of city’s head in Kramatorsk of Donetsk region.
