Dangerous Crimea; Russian court arrested Ukrainian for surname change

Russian court has remanded in custody the citizen of Ukraine, who had changed the surname to get to the territory of Crimea.

‘According to Ukrainian a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen. On the basis of Article 322 of the Criminal Code (‘Illegal crossing of the state border’) arrested face up to four years in prison’, tells the message of FSB border management.  

The incident happened on January 5 in the car checkpoint ‘Perekop’, located on the administrative border of Crimea and Ukraine.

It was noted that during interrogation the inhabitant of Kherson region ostensibly admitted that he changed the surname and already with new passport he was trying to get to occupied Crimea.
