The President of the International Committee of Red Cross Peter Maurer arrived to occupied Donetsk.
The aim of his visit is the assessment of the humanitarian situation in Donbass. The ICRC PR-representative has reported about it.
Peter Maurer communicated with the President of Ukraine Peter Poroshenko. The Head of State expressed his gratitude for the large-scale assistance program, which ICRC provided to Ukraine to overcome circumstances of continuing Russian aggression.
Poroshenko emphasized high interest of Ukraine to further deepen cooperation with ICRC, in particular, to implement humanitarian aspects of the Minsk agreements.
It was noted in time of the session that the ICRC involvement has a great importance for the promotion of the release of hostages, the search for missing persons, the provision of humanitarian assistance to citizens, who continue to be on occupied territories…
We would remind that ICRC permanently directs aid to people, living on occupied territories. So, at the beginning of March 2017 12 trucks from the International Committee crossed the ‘Novotroitskoe’ checkpoint and followed on uncontrolled territory.
Vehicles carried food and hygiene kits and also construction materials total weight of 233 tons for Donetsk region residents.
