Ex-head of the ‘DPR Security Council’, ex-commander of SBU Special Forces ‘Alpha’ Aleksander Khodakovsky has claimed that a number of unworked mines on the Non Government Controlled Areas is flooded.

According to his words, ‘DPR Government’ has no money to pump out the water in mines. Fighter has recognized that the threat of groundwater pollution has appeared.

‘A number of unworked mines is flooded, two of them have a rest of radioactive materials on their horizons. There was a practice in far Soviet times to use mines for waste storage. The minister of the profile ministry claims that money to pump out the water is absent and there is no any other exit as to flood them absolutely. There is no need to explain it for long what the threat of it will be: the contaminated water will get into the groundwater and get anywhere. Specialists assess the risks as very high, and the consequences are generally not appreciable’.
