In honor of the 31st anniversary at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Station the first persons of Ukraine turned to the people.
The President of Ukraine Peter Poroshenko: ‘Chornobyl for Ukraine is almost 10 percent of the territory that was directly affected by radiation damage. There are more than 3 millions of injured. Almost 500 thousands of them are children. There are thousands and thousands of people from hundreds of villages, towns and cities, who left native houses. These are thousands of cases of radiation-induced cancer and death … These are non-healing wounds with which we as a people live. We, and all of humanity with us, should make sure that such catastrophes never and nowhere recur’.
The Prime-Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman: ‘31 year ago the largest ecological catastrophe in the history of mankind happened at Chornobyl Nuclear Power Station. Great thanks to heroes, who at the cost of their own lives and health, protected us from the terrible consequences of this tragedy. Glory to the living and eternal memory to the dead!’.
The head of Parliament Andrei Parubiy: ‘On behalf of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, I express my sincere gratitude for your feat! Thanking to you, the Ukrainian state has overcome a terrible technogenic catastrophe. You have rescued from the spread of deadly radioactive contamination Ukraine and neighboring European countries. The Ukrainian people are in an invaluable debt to you’.
