Biggest part of the South-East of Ukraine inhabitants feels comfortable in Ukrainian-speaking environ (infographic)

Nearly 80% of respondents from inhabitants of the South-East of Ukraine feels comfortable, speaking on Ukrainian language, hearing Ukrainian-speaking or reading on it. The results of a poll, held by company GfK in 2016-2017 commissioned by the Institute of Mass Information with the support of UCBI and USAID organizations, showed it.

‘More than 80% of the South-East of Ukraine inhabitants feel absolutely free of comfortable, when they speak (81%), hear (89%) or read (85%) on Ukrainian language’, tells the report on the results of a poll.

Also, during last year, using of Russian-speaking media decreased in these regions.

Often, users of mass-media of eight regions hear Russian-speaking as well as Ukrainian-speaking (64%) radio and watch TV-channels (74%). But, Russian editions prevail among internet-resources and press (53%).

There are most spectators of Ukrainian-language TV shows in Kherson (16%) and Dnepropetrovsk (14%) regions, least of all are in Donetsk (1%) and Odessa (4%) regions.

Otherwise, it was noted in the results of research, that mostly every fifth inhabitant (17%) of the South-East regions of Ukraine supports the taking of measures to counter the dominant position of the Russian language, in particular, in education, business and the media.

The poll was held in Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporozhye, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Odessa regions and also on controlled to Ukraine Donbass territories. 15 103 people took part in this process.
