IDPs, international courts and prisoners of war: Ukraine adopts the experience of Croatia

The Deputy Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine George Tuka visited Zagreb (Croatia) to take part in the meeting of the Working Group on the Croatian Experience of Peaceful Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories.

‘Croatia has great experience of post-conflict regulation, – Tuka noted. – We’re interested, also, in the methods and technologies of negotiations, the prisoners of war and missed issue. Moreover we interest how Croats solved problems of the integration of returned territories, how they held the elections, how they came back IDPs and how supported them. Also, Croatia’s experience in the international courts is very important for us, because Ukraine must prepare to alike cases  against Russia’.

Emphasis was paid to the issue of attracting Croatian specialists to the training of qualified personnel in Ukraine in the issue of the reintegration of temporarily Non-Government Controlled Areas of Ukraine.

‘Croatian trainers are ready to come to Ukraine and to teach disciplines, connected with post-conflict regulation. By the way, this year first graduation of students on the specialty ‘Conflict Resolution and Mediation’ at the Kiev Polytechnic University will be’, George Tuka reported.

In time of the voyage the Deputy Minister also met with Ukrainian military, who are rehabilitated in Croatia. Zagreb mayor Milan Bandich presented at the meeting.
