The Deputy Head of Majlis of Crimean-Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was found guilty of appeals to violate the territorial integrity of Russia and sentenced for two years the colony-settlement. Also it’s prohibited to an activist for two years to engage in public activities. Radio Liberty has reported about it.

The verdict was read by the judge of the so-called “Simferopol District Court” controlled by Russia Andrei Kulishov. The investigation makes Umerov guilty of the statements he made during an interview with the Crimean Tatar television channel ATR. In Umerov’s air, he stressed the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia, which could force the aggressor to withdraw from the Crimea and the Donbas.

According to the Deputy Head of Majlis, he didn’t called for separatism. Umerov was talking in the broadcasting of TV-channel in Crimean-Tatar language and translator confirmed this fact in time of interrogation in the court. But he said that Umerov didn’t say words ‘need to’, which are considered by the investigation as evidence of appeals.

The prosecutor demanded to sentence Umerov to three and a half years’ imprisonment on probation, and at the same time to appoint the activist a three-year probationary period. Also at the same time forbid him to engage in public and teaching activities.

Umerov himself denies the accusations of separatism. On September 20, he spoke in court with the last word and said that after the annexation of the Crimea, Russian law enforcement agencies are carrying out repressions against supporters of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
